sex and want to read about it are rocking the romance genre.

During this last week, I’ve read two articles about
changes to romance fiction and writer’s views on love and sex at an Australian
news site, here and here
The lowdown is that nice guy, romance heroes
have jettisoned the alpha males and alpha holes off the page. Heroines have
outgrown the passive damsels with the heaving bosoms (????) caricature. She has
become feisty, confident and is pursuing a fulfilling life.
Romance novels are Australia’s steamiest secret.
Readers still love racy romance with happy
endings.
E-books are bought to
read the raunchy stuff and paperback for the sweet romances. Four steamy’s are
purchased for every sweet. Ah-huh! It’s a buffet of heat levels.
But it seems
Australian readers are following a sexy trend which is bigger than the land
down under. Mills & Boon, one of the world’s major romance publishing
houses, are launching a new category of books called DARE. It’s their hottest series
featuring empowered, fun and fearless women with the sexiest men. Modern
storylines are steamy, and might appeal to ladies of all ages, including the
grandmothers and young women.
